General information on the application requirements based on the information available on the Wits website.
The University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) offers an online application process for prospective students. To apply online, applicants must meet the following general requirements:
- Meet the minimum academic requirements for the program applied for: Each program has its own set of minimum academic requirements, such as specific high school grades or standardized test scores.
- Provide accurate and complete information: Applicants must provide all the necessary information required on the online application form, including personal details, academic history, and any supporting documents requested.
- Pay the application fee: Applicants are required to pay an application fee, which varies depending on the program applied for and whether the applicant is a South African citizen or an international student.
- Submit supporting documents: Depending on the program applied for, applicants may need to provide additional documentation, such as transcripts, certificates, or portfolios of work. These documents may need to be certified copies, as required by the university.
- Meet any additional program-specific requirements: Some programs may have additional requirements, such as interviews, auditions, or written submissions.
It is important for applicants to carefully review the requirements for their chosen program before applying to ensure that they meet all the necessary criteria. Incomplete or incorrect applications may delay the application process or result in the application being rejected.
If an applicant has any questions or concerns regarding the application requirements, they can contact the Wits admissions office for assistance and guidance.
How Wits determines each subject’s grade is as follows:
- Whether English is your first or second language, you must learn it.
- Prerequisites include all numerate programs in Math, Business, Law, and Management, Science, and Engineering and the Built Environment.
- See Admission Requirements (NSC) for a list of degrees that require proficiency in math.
- Wits does not make a distinction between designated and undesignated subjects when determining the admission point score (APS). The APS is calculated using the top seven subjects, including Life Orientation.
