UWC International Applicants 2024-2025
The University of the Western Cape (UWC) welcomes international students from all over the world who wish to pursue their studies at one of South Africa’s leading universities. Here’s everything international students need to know about applying to UWC:
Admission Requirements: International students must meet the same admission requirements as South African students. This includes having the necessary academic qualifications for their chosen program of study, as well as meeting the minimum language requirements.
Language Requirements: UWC is an English-medium university, and all applicants are required to have a good command of the English language. International students whose first language is not English may be required to provide proof of English proficiency, such as TOEFL or IELTS scores.
Application Process: International students can apply to UWC online through the university’s website. They must submit all required documents, including academic transcripts, a copy of their passport, and proof of English proficiency (if required). All documents must be submitted in English, or accompanied by a certified translation. The application fee is R100 (South African rand), and payment can be made online using a credit card.
Student Visas: International students who are admitted to UWC will require a study visa to enter and study in South Africa. It is the responsibility of the student to apply for a study visa before leaving their home country. Students should contact the nearest South African embassy or consulate for information on the visa application process.
Health Insurance: International students are required to have adequate health insurance coverage while studying in South Africa. Students are advised to purchase a comprehensive health insurance plan that includes medical evacuation and repatriation.
Accommodation: UWC offers a range of accommodation options for international students, including on-campus residences and off-campus housing. On-campus accommodation is allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, and students are advised to apply early to secure a spot. Off-campus housing options include private apartments and shared houses, and students are responsible for arranging their own accommodation.
