To be eligible for admission into higher certificate, diploma, or degree programs at the University of Cape Town (UCT), prospective students must have met the National Senior Certificate (NSC) requirements for such endorsement. However, if a prospective student does not meet the minimum requirements for UCT admission but is 23 years or older and has a Grade 12 (school-leaving) certificate, they may qualify for a mature age exemption. In this case, they should discuss the possibility of conditional exemption with the relevant faculty office. It’s important to note that applicants with mature age exemption are not considered for programs offered in the Faculties of Health Sciences or Law. For prospective students with non-South African secondary school leaving certificates, they must have met the requirements for matriculation exemption. Additionally, all applicants must have achieved the minimum criteria for admission to the program/s of their choice in the final secondary school leaving assessment.
